    Muffler tip protrusion?

How far should the end of the chrome tip extend from the outside edge of the body opening? Car is 1970 911S

I'm not sure the "protrusion" was ever a factory or standard measurement.....

An original chrome tip was pressed onto an original Liestritz muffler tail pipe tube so that the tube came a perhaps 2-3 mm short of the edge of the chrome tip. This would correspond with the short angle of the chrome tip just barely, another 2-3 mm, abutting the inside curve of the tail pipe at the back. Those spacial relationships allowed the pipe to protrude "whatever." After market tips and mufflers may change all of that. So....look at back in the day photos or old brochures.

Are the chrome tips a press fit only or a tack weld too?

Press fit...the original tips had dimples pressed into their surface to make the fit snug.....Eric's had them as well.
