67S Locking ignition switch is dying.... what are the options?

    Greetings and Happy TG!

    I have a locking ignition switch in my Euro-delivery 66/67 S.

Over time he ignition switch has started to become unreliable.

It turns on and locks 100% of the time but 10% of the time, doesn't crank at all or start (gotten worse over the years but I'm driving it less).

Of that 10% of the time, if I let it sit for one to many hours, it starts up.

I had it diagnosed a couple of years ago - that it "probably is" the switch but also stated my alternator diodes are old.

So, is it possible to salvage and repair the locking unit with a new switch component? Has anyone tried this repair?

I'm guessing the answer is no and the best option is to remove the locking unit and replace with new switch/non locking.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, escpecially those with an early car with the same option/similar situation.

    Thanks,
    Josh

Look at the back of the switch as you turn the key, see if the black plastic insert is turning with the key, if it is sometimes you can improve things by restaking the retaining crimps.

Thanks for the advice. I'll check it out.

If this thing is toast, it looks like the best way to go would be a new non-locking switch install or maybe have someone service?

Is there anyone out there that can service these locking ignition switches?

Thank you for the input! Marco looks to be local. I'll start there.
