^^^^What Bill said. That's my MO. Keep us posted that the seller makes it right.

I'm not Amazon or Walmart, the buyer is responsible for insuring their valuable items and paying extra for said insurance.

Same deal if you buy a car and have it shipped, does the seller deal with it when a car gets damaged in shipment.. nope!

Now if they're not happy with the item, then sure full refund, just send it back.
Actually if you sell something and handle the shipping, it is your responsibility until the buyer receives it. 99% of the time if an item is packed correctly it arrives fine. But this is why I don't handle car shipping, it's too dangerous and it goes through too many hands for me to be responsible. I personally load cars, and make sure everything is strapped down and secure, but once it leaves my gate, it's not my problem. I've had overseas brokers offer me kickbacks to handle shipping, I refuse. I've also refused to handle shipping with items that have to go by truck, because there again it's a butcher system. As an added piece of insurance, when I do ship something by truck, I crate it for free. A broken or smashed motor doesn't do anyone any good and insurance from a trucking company is worthless, you're lucky to collect 5 cents on the dollar for the amount you insured it for.

I suppose, just seems callous to treat individuals as large corporations.

I've had two valuable items damaged in shipment, and both times I had paid to insure them. I guess I'll pay more attention in the future, but the full insurance will just get tacked on to the shipping price that the buyer pays. If they don't like it, get in your car and come get it..

Well, I've already explained why you're wrong. But enjoy your fantasy world. What's it like in there? You got a recliner?

I think you're laughing here but it's important to remember, there are two kinds of laughing.
    1. You're laughing with someone.
    2. You're laughing at someone.

I don't think Peter is laughing....meaning you're maybe making a joke, but at his expense. We were all calmly discussing how to properly ship parts and you felt the need to clown him, why?

Wow. Lively discussion. Glad I initated the post. Never thought about insurance being my responsibility as a buyer, but I guess it makes sense to check with seller as to insurance amount. If I think it's too low, then I can supplement. When I sell I always insure for the amount of the sale, but I never thought to check as a buyer. Will keep forum posted as to outcome with buyer. And no, I did not use Paypal on this transaction. I bear responsibility of that.

Most shipping companies have a minimum insurance amount included, UPS is $100, so many shippers will default to this unless otherwise told by the buyer. But it does go up quickly, I shipped some wheels today, insured them for $1000, it cost an additional $18 for the insurance. I ate the $18 since I only charged $100 for shipping. Sometimes the bear eats you.
