Thread: New purchase dilemma....newer Porsche or vintage BMW

The days that you want to drive the 914 will be the same days that you want to drive the 2002. The Boxster will offer something completely different and is usable in an alternative way which likely means that you'll get more wheel time in a 914/Boxster combination than you would in a 914/2002 combo.

+1 to this, although my heart is with the vintage car every time. But that's me.

Th car looks nice on the pictures, only some minor mismatch (master brake cylinder, door card-color) but pretty much all of the early features are still there.
    Does the aftermarket AC work?
The Antenna is a bit odd - only sunroof cars or convertibles / Targas should have it there.
I like that it still has the matte hubcaps and the Intarsienleisten both are a rare sight.

I believe the door cards are the correct color....it might be the angle that the photo was taken with the sunlight. It's equipped with a Frigiking Air-Conditioning system with a new compressor....everything functions correctly. The antenna is a little odd on the trunk.

I hate to admit it....but I think you're right Mike. That's part of the reason I was attracted to the Boxster.....plus it's a good value for the $$$.

The 2002 will always be worth at least what you pay for it and most likely much more in the future. The Boxter not. Looks like the 02 has been restored nicely too, plus it's an early one. 02s are simple cars designed to be on the road forever. Cheap parts make that economically feasible. A non matching engine isn't that big a deal in the 02 world, this one has the important stuff, an original look with a correct interior and an uncracked 3 piece dash. The 2002 will garner much more attention than the Boxter I assure you, if that makes a difference. The 2002 is what put BMW on the map in this country, a little piece of history

Ahhhh the sixties... I envision myself one early Saturday morning wearing plaid shorts, black shoes with white socks smoking a cigarette heading to the hardware store to buy a bag of nails.
SWB cars are an acquired taste however once acquired theirs no turning back.

can you post a photo of the 914?

I have 74 2.0 too. (which turned out to be one of my favorite cars for 15 yrs)
I had no choice with super bad paint, so I have been painting my 911, and just put the door on yesterday

Your 914 looks great Scott.....love it in black. Here are several photos of my 2.0L. It's all original with only one repaint in the early 80's due to clear coat failure of the metallic silver paint. These cars are very fun to drive.....and very rare to find in this condition.

There was a time when my car was as nice as yours.
I'm the second owner and the car was never crashed or modified.

I see the Le Mans 24 decals on your car. Did you ever get to go?
I lived over there and went with my brothers. A marathon.

I see you like silver cars, I have 3 myself. Very hard to paint.
