    FS: Competition Motors Woodland Hills

    Hi All,

    Happy New Year.

I've decided to offer my Competition Motors frame for sale. It's in really lovely original patinated condition, there's a little tweak in the bottom right hand corner, I'm sure you could straighten it out if you wanted to, but it's never bothered me enough to do anything about it. I like it the way it is and I've owned it a long time.

Have a look at the photos. I'm looking for $1200 including worldwide shipping.

Store had several locations, starting-out in Hollywood, then Woodland Hills, ending-up in Culver City. More here . . .

I believe this style of Woodland Hills frame would date between '63 and '69

Hard to tell from these pics but some OG CM frames had a gold-ish finish to them?

Thanks for confirming LongRanger, I've been reading around and it's been mentioned that license plate frames are your specialist subject

This message that Rower got from the Ex Competition Motors parts manager suggests how rare these frames are:

"Good Luck in finding one. I was the Parts Manager for Competition Motors from Sept.1956 until sold to Bob Smith in 1965. Mr. von Neumann did not want Competition Motors license frames made because other dealers might think that he was selling too many cars and not allocating enough cars to them.
The General Manager at Competition Motors in Woodland Hills had 1 batch made, without Mr. von Neuman's approval. When he found out I was sent to pick up any remaining ones and destroy them. Needless to say the General Manager was chewed out.
Your fictitious North Hollywood frames are probably popular with PORSCHE people because of this. Be sure to tell them that Original COMPETITION MOTORS NORTH HOLLYWOOD license frames never existed.

I had a 1967 that had this same license plate frame. Unfortunately when I sold the car I decided it should stay on the car. This is a very nice example!
