The Gooding 72S didn’t look that good to me. It might of been unrestored but it wasn’t unpainted, and not that great. Oil was pouring out of the engine, the engine compartment was a mess, 3/4 of the sound pad was gone and there was the remnants of a mouse nest behind it. Which makes me think the top of the engine and oil cooler also have a nest. Don’t know if it was well bought or not but it needs lots of work. The 67S there has a dry engine, THE ONLY ONE at all the auctions, the rest weather fresh or original were soaking wet. G

Politely the car was edgy, 27k miles was simply not believable. 127k? I looked it over personally and I think it sold for a market correct # given the overall presentation of the car. This is the situation that best exemplifies why you have to see the cars in person to really know if they are well bought, well sold or indicative of a market trend.

The hood looked like someone had spilled brake fluid on it (possibly from car parked above it on a lift or transport) and had been poorly repaired. Invisible in phots but glaringly obvious in sunlight.

the sports seats of the 1967 S have been painstakingly restored. letherette not in the original trim and the padding reminds me of bratwurst. With the seat on the passenger side, I would not be so sure whether this is not a converted lwb seat. sotheby's car with rally kit: wow, that's a great pair of seats in great condition! if someone is interested in something like this, I have the same pair in perfectly restored condition here. if you are interested please pm. greeting

Seems to reflect the current state of the market . . .

Original (unrealistic) published auction estimate: US$250,000 - $300,000

Correct. And I was a bidder and before the auction was sure I would get it! But I was left far behind! Why did he (and one other very well known guy) want it so bad?!? (Grrr. Because it’s an amazing car!!!) My sense is he would just have kept on going. Amazing car.

    Edit:

Here’s a link to the car bidding.

    https://www.sportscarmarket.com/prof...-kit-rally-kit

It’s not accurate (for example, it mentions a friend of mine as a bidder when he wasn’t; I was using the same person he uses to bid on cars so Prescott confused us I think)

    I didn’t know Ruf bid.

Also, I disagree on comparing its value to ST’s etc. it was the case of two wealthy individuals badly wanting this car, knowing there would never be another in this condition with these options and having the dollar value being immaterial to them.
