Glove box break in tips please

    Hi,

Picked up a 69 911T on the weekend with a locked glove box. The car came with a pair of extra keys which fit into the glove box lock but do not turn it.

Any tips for how best to open it? It’s probably empty but it’s bugging me!

Pic for fun: historic race car getting redone as a more street freindly hot rod. Power courtesy of a 2.3 twin plug with mfi.

Remove knee rail and glove box insert is bolted in with a strap, bolt is at the bottom. Or buy a Porsche ignition key and cut it to existing pattern. Valet keys have same cut but only work in ignition, if u r lucky key will work.

69 predates the valet key. Separate key for ignition versus doors. Unless the door handles and locks have been upgraded to the later style. Agree with others, drop the box from behind bring the lock to a locksmith.

On a '68 I once carefully backed out the screw on the strap which holds the glove box. I maybe even had to Dremel tool a slot in it to allow a flat blade screw driver slot. Ultimately nothing was in the glove box and it turns out the door was just stuck from years of sitting. I could have just yanked hard to break it free.
