I can see the high bids. Rare color, 1 owner and all original. It's the perfect storm and now the Japanese cars are finally getting the credit that they deserve.

    A '67 2000GT sold for 665K.

and even a '94 Supra TT sold for $173,600.

Sorry. I'm not seeing how this is in any way worth that amount.
    67 911 , 69 911S, Ford V Ferrari 906LH, 85 Carrera...and-gasp! a bunch of Corvettes, Musclecars and Italian crap(330GTC,GTA/M,308GTB)

Probably because 2 people were willing to pay it. That's kinda the definition of "worth".

Now, worth it TO YOU is subjective. But worth is not.

240Z did better than Porsche 911 in these tough sometimes very dusty or extremely muddy events in early 70s

Nearly 4,000 miles on rough terrain from sea level to 10,000 ft 5 days average 60mph

    Wouldn't particularly want one though!

    Yup.
Unicorn example of an iconic car.

A one time chance for a Z, Japanese, or low mile multi-make collector.

Makes complete sense to me, but I wouldn't pay that for the car. Which are two different concepts

'. . . In its 50 years of single-family ownership, the Z was only driven 21,750 miles. A complete chain of ownership, or even better, single-family ownership, helps verify authenticity and is very important for low mileage cars like this . . .

. . . likely the most original 240Z in existence

I get that. Wonderful, rare and a perfect example. I just think it over sold by about 200K that's all. Just my personal opinion.
