    Original 911R 901/52 Gearbox

This is the original gearbox to 911 R15. Being a type 901/52 it is suitable for another R or any 1968 911 versions factory built with Rally equipment. The 901/52 was often delivered in 1967/68 competition cars.

    SOLD.

Wonderful. LSD is in there too. Too bad about the mainshaft. Good luck with the sale.

Definitely a head scratcher on both accounts. I can not answer for either party. I would certainly want it if I owned R15. I do have a 904 main shaft if the buyer would like it.

It has quite an unusual set of gears also. Was this set up for a specific track? Other than first, I could put that set together.

    Hi Don,

    This is a strange stamping:
I have never seen this type in a special gear ratio gearbox, even my original 901/54 Nuerburgring gearbox has the bigger 54 number stamps on it, not the smaller ones like the serial numbers?

It would be interesting to know, whether the 911R gearboxes were stamped in a different manner. Maybe somebody could post pictures of 911R gearbox numbers!

The race department used different sized stamps. I also have a factory group 3 engine that is stamped differently that a production engine. This gearbox is a known quantity. The numbers are proper.

Claudius, yes that is a bit of an odd stamping, but then the special gearboxes are handled individually. As part of my data collection I have a particular interest in transmissions. We are all familiar with the normal serial series for the 901-5x, 7x & 8x gearboxes (928xxxx & 739xxxx), however there are also two more serial series I have found: 901/52 in 200xx series and 901/54 mixed in with the 13xxxx 902/1 series for non-S 911 during 1967; so a special serial series just for special boxes, and regular serial series numbers co-opted for special boxes.
I'd like to get more photos of any special gearboxes to document them properly.
    I agree with Don's assessment.
