    Gemini Blue....

My car is about to go into paint and we are rechecking the paint formula for Gemini Blue. My car was repainted many years ago, and the car is more purple than it should be. However, there is some original paint under the VIN tag. Here is a BASF Glasurit current paint compare to under the plate. We will check with Glasurit tech and see how many tint formula changes have occurred for his color since 71. In addition it would be good to find some original Porsche brochure (preferred) or paint manufacturer original chips If we can hunt down a set from Porsche circa 71 then adjust formula as needed for exact match, it would be ideal and great documentation for a job done right. What do folks think of this color compare?

We had this one a few years ago, if that helps.

Looking at the far right 'hole' and what's around it and underneath I think you're as spot on as you can be.

Metallics photograph very differently in different light, especially blues... Ask me how I know...

And some like to 'sweeten' the color key in editing...

I've seen a few numbered Gemini cars painted Blue Metallic, and the other way around...

The colors get confused until they're parked together...

    - My friend Lars' '72S on the right is Gemini Blue, my '73S on the left is Blue Metallic...
    - Second photo, same cars different light. Lars' in front...

    Hope this helps,

Spray out card looks a bit too green, IMHO.

Just thinking out loud and wondering how much the original paint has darkened over 47 years...

...remember too, that even identifying a spray out card you're happy with (i.e. you consider it 'the' match you are looking for), the end result of a metallic re-spray has variables that a solid color does not (or at least not as much)...pick your painter carefully...consistency in gun distance and control, gun pressure, and mixing enough paint (same batch) will help to ensure uniformity and color match.

Not sure it helps for all reasons explained and variables of camera screen but this is my colour card given to retail customers for model year 72. This is an official Porsche document from early 70s as requested.

A friend's model year 73 car was originally Gemini Blue so happened to have ths snap to hand
