After seeing your handy work at Jeff's shop last month I think it is a safe bet to follow your recommendation

My racecar (Note I said "racecar", NOT "track car"), no undercoating. Everything else, definitely at least some undercoating.

You save more than ounces but rather 10’s of pounds.

It won’t be fully authentic if you don’t exclude the undercoating. None of the factory lightweights had it.

I have several Porsche’s that came from the factory without undercoating and I drive them on the street, including a 911 werks car.

However, if it’s not full period authenticity you care about, then it’s up to you of course.

A friend once owned 2VEV (Aston DB4GT Zagato) in former times. He made some rubber inserts for the wheelwells as stones picked up by the tread always made dents in the fenders...

The DB4 GT Zagato is alloy bodywork though...?

Yes, my lightweight was always was noisy when my gumballs picked up rocks from the gravel roads I drove on. However, street driving never caused an issue with noise/dents.

Undercoat is good for a sports purpose but I was fine without it.

    To each his own.

Race cars/track cars remove it, street cars a light layer.
I mean why not? How fast do you need to get to the car shows? Even with a spirited drive it's worth the added comfort and chassis protection.

If you aren't the fastest to get to the car shows then all of the guys in the modern mustangs with straight pipes take the good spots I am leaning towards a light layer of undercoating as many have recommended!
