    1968 911S rear lids

In November 1967 the bar was removed from the center of the rear grille opening on all 911 and 912s. Were there any aluminum 911S rear lids of the later type prior to the introduction of the 1969 MY LWB models?

I don't think so. It may be just me but I think 912s got the "no center bar" rear lid before 911s. It allowed 912s to get the rain shield that wouldn't fit on 911s.

Here's the info on rear lids with center bars from the factory parts manuals. They all disappeared in mid-November 1967.

    11 800 379
    11 805 122
    11 810 290
    11 820 368
    11 830 260
    11 850 118
    11 855 030
    11 860 107
    11 870 093
    11 880 064
    12 820 159
    12 870 337
    12 801 832

    Whew!

Lids with bars have provision for the rear wiper shaft on the left side only from at least the beginning of the 1967 model year, when the position of the shaft opening moved to a lower position. Rear wipers were optional from October 1965 or thereabouts (December 1965 verified by Kardex) -- will post a photo of this earliest style when I receive one. Lids without bars have wiper shaft holes on both sides. Sorry, if everybody knew this already.
