    Opinions regarding best raspy exhaust

I built my muffler which is basically perforated, straight through pipes inside a megaphone for each bank and the banana is gutted and filled with fiberglass. The megaphones have large holes through the wall where they are within the banana and there is steel wool around the inner, perforated pipe and the megaphone. This is basically like 911R muffler except for the fiberglass.

The result is the high frequencies are muted which I miss hearing. I'm thinking of opening it back up enough to remove the steel wool & fiberglass.

I have been told that Ed Mayo's exhaust is rather nice so I hope to hear from you Ed & some details of your muffler build.

    Paul,
I hope you are safe and well.
Pretty sure that Ed based his muffler conversion on the Jeff Gamble Muffler modification but then again I could be wrong.

Yeah, that is old as the hills. I think Ed did something different. RWC is former PCA Tech Editor Richard (Roger?) Chaney from the 1970s.

I wish I could say what I did was the end result of years of scientific research and testing,,,,,but in the end it was just an old sport muffler that was laying around built to the standard in the Pano article. I was just trying to copy the look of the 911R muffler built to go with the short bumpers. I welded on some 2 1/2" diameter pipes and put it on the car. After awhile I realized the exhaust felt 'corked up' and after further inspection realized that the pipe outlets I welded on were actually in the end chambers and weren't getting good exhaust thru put, so I cut holes in the outer baffles. The noise level seemed to change indicating exhaust flow was getting out easier, and the exhaust didn't have that 'corked up' feel anymore. I didn't add any stuffing to the can or the tail pipes,,I'm good with its sound,,,,even though its construction is a bit 'blacksmith'!

And yes, RWC was Roger Chaney, tech ed. for Pano for years, lived right here in Ft.Worth.

    Thank you Ed.

I met Roger once. He looked at a '68 S engine I took to him once upon a time in a land far away from me now.

I think I will remove the inner stuffing on my Frankenstein muffler build.
