Ahhhh the sixties... I envision myself one early Saturday morning wearing plaid shorts, black shoes with white socks smoking a cigarette heading to the hardware store to buy a bag of nails.
SWB cars are an acquired taste however once acquired theirs no turning back.

I ordered these air filters, still putting everything together, so I can't report back on air leaks yet

    Bobby,

You saw the ones on my engine at Rusty’s :-)

Kundensport (as mentioned above) is who makes them and they are based on the Porsche 908 air filter arrangement. They’re about $550 shipped to the east coast from California and Ed was a great guy to work with (no affiliation but highly recommend him). Mine took a couple of weeks to get since he makes them to order and occasionally runs low on components to build them.

The air filter housings are made of heavy fiberglass with black gel coat and are left relatively unfinished so you can drill them for different applications (easily done with a Dremel tool). The paper filters guys are using in them are readily available on eBay and Amazon but cost about $30 each with shipping. Of note, Kundensport did not intend for them to have a filter since the assemblies are really designed for keeping rain out of intakes on race cars. I also considered individual filters on the tops of the velocity stacks but I think paper filters may work better since they provide more surface area.

Additionally, the picture posted by the OP shows a slightly custom setup that is adapted to be used with ‘72/‘73 plastic stacks. The regular setup Kundensport sells also includes bases that fit like the ‘71 and earlier MFI airbox bases and clear the stock MFI pumps and lines. It doesn’t come with clips and I’m currently trying to find bungees that hold the tops to the bases (and compress the paper filters in place) that replicate the original 908 style / look. You could also just drill the tops / bases for small screws / nuts but the 908 bungee cords look great and will make getting to the filters a lot easier.

I haven’t started the engine so I can’t comment on air leaks or how everything works but they do look good.
