Thread: Bob Garretson’s no sale

    Bob Garretson’s no sale

I am stunned Bob Garretson’s 72 personal hot rod was a no sale on BAT at 85K. With the crazy prices we see every day there it was unbelievable to me. A rust free California 72 roller is worth that. Go figure. Some might say that the younger generation does not know of Bob, but the text and comments fully explain.

I don’t follow BAT but would be a pity if the reason for a no sale is a younger generation don’t know of him and his accomplishments. I had a lovely chat with Bob and Ruth in the Silverstone paddock late 2021. They were over here visiting friends from when had previously lived in U.K. I was acquainted with his host. We spent the next hour or so in paddock watching a few classic races and chatting. Particularly details of a race with a rival that coincidentally I was scheduled to have lunch with soon thereafter! Turned out we knew some other folks in common from motor-racing and British old Porsche scene. Charming couple; fascinating stories.

Yeah, mine only got to 85k too. It's all over the board price wise. Live sold his Targa for $268k less than a month ago. Maybe people want 100% original only, but I've seen some long hoods with 3.2 Carrera engines go for 200k.
    Funny market, can't please everyone.

And I think there was comment on another thread that they were not actually 67 sport seats?

How about the 1969 911T that didn't reach reserve at $156k. Color me baffled.
The problem with racers is that we are always looking to improve our cars (for ourselves), but non racers don't care.
Garretsons car, like mine, were meant to be driven and reliable.

Bob is a great dude, with a long history with Porsche.
I stopped at his house a couple of years ago to get him to sign a dash for one of my cars. A 914/6 that he and Bruce Anderson built to run IMSA. It's en route to becoming a 904, but his name inside will be cool years from now.
Surprised his car didn't go higher.

Non matching transmission, non-original seats, missing side trim. Non-original color, original color fairly standard. Markets like originality. No disrespect to the owner, but I assume a lot of people are not aware who he is.
