am re-installing without gaskets , looks like 69 onwards has gasket up to 68 , no gasket on the PET, interestingly for me the failed CV joint had a gasket + recess, wonder if this was the wrong CV joint on the end of my driveshaft?

Early SWB cars with the Lobro CV joints never had a gasket. As a result, they leak.
So I would recommend sealing the outside of the joint where it meets the flange completely with clear RTV as a preventive measure. If you look at some of the factory photos, you can clearly see the joints are sealed with something on the outside. Some of the factory literature (not all) also talks about using "Mastic" to seal the inside surface of the boots to the flange as well, to help prevent leaks. I found that hard to do with the grease everywhere and still get the clamp on there.
The RTV trick seems to work OK with my car, at least for a summer's driving. Of course, it has to be redone periodically.

I wrap thin aluminum duct tape around the joint.
