    Magnesium Wheel Repair

    Hello,

I have 2 magnesium Technomagnesio 356 wheels with cracks stemming from the lug holes. I admittedly know nothing about welding mag. Does anyone know if these are repairable, and if they are, would they be suitable for racing ever again? Would hate to have to toss them. Thanks

Welding magnesium can be done but finding someone to do wheels may be difficult. The potential "exposure" if it fails might turn some people off.

I've seen real magnesium racing wheels disintegrate when left out in the weather. Here's a link to some. The ones I saw were mostly gone.

BTW and FWIW; Our cars with magnesium engine cases are prone to "bloom" (white powder as they corrode) if they aren't cared for. "Leakers" do better.

    Thanks @sithot

Your links were very helpful. I've definitely seen bloom. In the rgruppe area of the rennsport paddock there was a beautiful black super speedster with mag torque thrusts that looked like they were molding

Is the crack in your photo in the wheel metal, or just the paint?

    I agree.
Looks like it’s missing some paint on the curve so I would definitely check for cracked paint on the spot you are concerned about. Could be much about nothing. Hopefully
