    Not inebriated. It's how it was done.

    The application of "black" on the firewall and other areas isn't ever perfect. There are no lines drawn to stay within and in the case of the firewall nobody sees it once the soundproofing is applied.
    (I hear it's awful hard to go over a perfect 356 underbody with pitch)

    FWIW, "Made by Hand" shows a worker is applying "rust proofing" with a mop and bucket of pitch!

    Below are photos of the 356SC that won Gmund Gold at the Boca Raton Porsche Parade in 2019. Done the way the factory sent it originally.

    All the shock mounts I've seen are generally sloppy. Note the runs in the paint on the chassis number. This is a 1974 911. Standard Operating Procedure .

    Perhaps the indentations were added to provide a degree of stiffening to the inner panels.
