    painting knee pads

I have just obtained some under dash knee rolls - to get rid of the awful under dash coolaire vents. Trouble is they are a shade of burgundy made popular by Pete Cetera post Chicago.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to paint these knee rolls. They appear to be covered in a layer of vinyl. I would like them to be the same black/matt as the dashboard.

Thanks in advance for any ideas

    Mike,

A good quality vinyl spray dye will do it … over here I would use Marhide (satin black) vinyl spray, you probably have a product of equal quality over there…

Mask EVERYTHING! … You'll be using a dye, and it WILL dye anything it touches.

Apply with several light coats until you have desired and even coverage…

Also use in a well ventilated area, the vinyl dyes I've used use Taluline as a solvent… being around that stuff too much and you can lose most of the sixties … on second thought, may be that wouldn't be all THAT bad...

    Cheers,

Mike, I have used a product called 'Vinylcote' with good success in the past but can't find any details of where to get it now.

You can get aerosol vinyl dyes from these people - try this UK link:
