I just finished browsing this very interesting thread and it brought up a question regarding "gold-" versus "chrome-" colored nameplates and model numbers on the rear decklid. I was looking at this really cool car when Gary was marketing it a couple of years ago and the nameplate was gold but the model number was silver:
When I asked him about it, he said it came that way from the factory and until now I have believed that this detail (matching/non-matching chrome/gold) is random as shipped by the factory. On this thread, I see that there is a M470 comfort group that allows specification of this.
What's the deal with these name plates? Obviously they can be easily swapped out from one color to the other (or to black for that matter.) Were they ever shipped mis-matched as the owner of this car claimed?

Both items are from my collection, here again
This is 1971
And this is 1971 too!, not 1972.
Another 1971 item, the german accessories list including prices.
Many option codes have missing numbers, as 424, since sometimes option codes for specific markets only or, not in use/special order. The 4xx usually indicates same group.

How about Talbot Mirrors mounted way up on the fenders.... on an early 65 911,,,, and on the Kardex....
Will find pics of my old car. T

I don't know how popular the Talbot Mirror option would have been back in the day, but the Talbot Mirrors were not mounted on the fenders. They weren't mounted at all:

The picture in the brochure does show them forward of the doors. Note the 356 part numbers.
Somebody posted somewhere (I think this forum) that he'd picked up a car at the factory and they did mount the Talbots on it so that he could drive away. They recommended a forward mounting for taller drivers.
I speculate that because the first sports cars most Americans saw were British, and the Brits mounted their mirrors out on the "wings," many Americans associated fender mounted mirrors (and leather belts holding down the hood) with sports cars.
By the way, back in September 1965, each Talbot Mirror cost DM 22.50/$5.65.

On my own 71 'T' and others I have seen, the '911T' is silver , and the 'PORSCHE' is gold.
