North American Vin Decal (B Pillar) required for European Delivery?

With respect to the VIN decals (a requirement for North American cars), were they also required if the car was a European Delivery car, ordered by a US customer?
It's my belief that such a car would have been imported to the US as a "used" car, and not a "new" car, so wondered if the requirement for the VIN decal was still in effect?

My car does not have a VIN decal sticker, and before ordering one from CarBone (Andy Thonet not being in the decal business), I wanted to try and determine if my car should have one.

My car is a 72T, manufactured April 1972, for a customer in Colorado Springs. It was a European Delivery car, and customer picked it up in Dublin in June 1972 (Irish temporary registration book = June 6th 1972). The warranty date once it was back in the states (Colorado Springs) was July 5th, 1972.

This is the decal ordered from CarBone by fellow member, Gregbus, which is 3 digits away from mine (xxx2048)

My early '72 T was Tourist Delivery, picked up at the factory in Stuttgart. It did come with the doorjamb sticker, which is/was really NOT a VIN sticker, but is officially a "compliance declaration". The compliance certification was required even if the car being imported was used.

Here's a shot of my original, and also the replacement from Car-Bone.

Arne, I agree that most likely any North American compliant car got the conformance decal. Good to see they got the "7"s correct on yours. Many different 7's were used.

Thanks for the info and clarification. Yes Arne, compliance declaration is a better phrase.

Why is the “7” different between the one in the year of manufacture and the one in your VIN #?

The differences in the 7 are probably due to the punching equipment used. I have 5 varieties of the 7 (and 2 sub-varieties where one hole is not properly removed) and 2 varieties of the 9. I don't think the factory cared about matching fonts as long as the numbers were readable. In the 914 there was a period where the dates were completely incorrect.

My '71 factory 914-6 has the same "anomaly" with regard to the "7". Perfect timing as now that my car is finished and I received my CarBone Compliance Sticker last week, I am going to install it today.

I purchased mine from decal restore after I saw some reviews of early decals from car-bone. Typically I’m a fan of car-bone, but the vin decals from decal restore looked and felt more like the originals.

I thought about using Decal Restore, but decided that the additional cost for slightly greater accuracy wasn't worth it for a T driver. The Car-Bone decal that I got last year was quite nice, as it turns out. No complaints.
