Jim, the driver's seat in Ann John's RS was a high (fixed) back Recaro 'lollipop' race seat as seen in some 3.0 RSR's & 935's.

I actually drove her car back in 1990 when I was looking for an RS for a customer.

Andy, do you have pictures of the "lollypop" Recaros. They sound interesting.

Jens/Rick - this is the only picture that I could find on my hard-drive showing the 3.0RSR/935 Recaro 'lollipop' seat:

"But I don't really think we'll ever build a better 911 than the 2.7L Carrera RS. I'm convinced they really were the greatest. So light and delicate. So fast." Interesting perspective, wonder if he still thinks so now.

    Nick,
Thanks for sharing the article. Do you or Andy know where Ann's Gulf Orange RS is now? Does she still own it? Just curious.

Let's see if we can track it down. Andy, do you know the VIN?

I have just scanned another couple of pages from the same magazine. The writer Chris Harvey justifies his purchase from Autofarm of a 911S instead of an RS

    Nick,

On the third page of the first article the chassis number is listed as 'the last three digits of its chassis number are 928 and of its engine number 911'. So it must be 9113600928 with motor number 6630911. Interesting that it originally came with 'PORSCHE' black side lettering.

Ann Johns’ RS was chassis # 0928 - one of only 100 RHD Tourings & the only one to leave the Factory in Gulf Orange.

Options fitted were 2-stage heated rear window, sports seats, driver’s side door mirror, black “PORSCHE” side lettering & electric windows.

It is interesting to note that M472 (Touring) models had the option of black or white “PORSCHE” side lettering. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an RS thus equipped – has anyone else ? George ?

I don’t know whether Ann Johns still owns the car – I’ll pass by her old address & see if it’s still around.

There are people who would know the current whereabouts of this particular RS but due to the Data Protection Act I doubt whether they’d divulge this information. I’ll ask around anyway.
