    the used 911 story

I have just finished Peter Zimmermann's book which is a very good read.
Has anyone else here read it and any thoughts about what the book has to say about the early 911s.
From the early 911s he seems to like the 1967 S, 1970/71 T and S, and the 1973 cis T.
    Any thoughts?

the 1973.5 cis T does not perform like a sports car engine should.

he prob. likes it because it is easy to start in cold weather and got good fuel economy. neither is a sprots car virtue.

How does the 73 911t drives compared to the E's and S's ?
Is anyone surprised that Zimmermann rates the 2.2 engine over the 2.4?

No, clearly the 2.2 motors are the pinnacle of early 911 motoring....anything else is rubbish.

If that is the case, then why do so many build to 2.7RS Spec rather than 2.2S?

The reason they didn't take your comment seriousily is that your not TABS52.

The pinnacle of 911 development was the 73 RS, after that it was refinment to meet the changing times of what having a Porsche meant. They became a yuppie, luxo, pimp mobile.

However there is something to be said for the 2.2 over the 2.4, the 2.4 developed power at lower rpm to give more bottom end power, which Americans love with their muscle cars vs the 2.2 where it developed it's power at a higher rpm which is more European in nature.

Ahhh spoken with the true honesty of one who is trying to justify his "smaller" tool.

Those of us with 2.4's salute your venture into whimsy, and are saddened by the size of yours.

OK, OK - clearly the sarcasm I was shooting for was not achieved! BUT- my little 2.2E motor scoots along nicely until I get the opportunity to build out a 2.5L short stroke to drop in....

YES - the 2.7RS is THE machine. Could not agree with any greater degree on green envy for those who have em...

So - a little leaway here, was definitely poking the big boys, but all in good fun.
