Thread: U Can't Make Up History

  1. #11
I agree that its sacriledge to take a pristine early 'S' and rip it apart- there aren't enough good ones out there.

But, a couple of Tabs comments show how little he understands the Gruppe.

"They tend to forget the qualitative aspect of the ride. They tend to forget they are driving a piece of automotive history."

Does anybody care about the qualitative aspect of the ride more than the R Gruppe? Here are a bunch of guys spending massive energy & resources just for the feel and persona of the car-many of these guys could have a 996 TT, but choose not to. It seems to me that R Gruppe is mostly about the history & qualitative aspect- what else can you say about a club that bases itself off a 30+ year-old document, the "Information Regarding Porsche Vehicles Used for Sports Purpose" booklet from Porsche.

"That one thing an R Gruppe clone can never be...is a piece of History...it simply did not exist in time... It has no glory of it's own."

Didn't exist in time? How about this:

These cars are the guide for our clones, our goal is to re-create the persona and feel of the historic cars. And, as for 'having no glory of its own', how can anyone say this isn't glorious:

    I like that thought!

Cool another period modified car....History? Yup.

I dug this out of my library for Rick and scanned it. Notice the blatant "bastardization" of the rear fenders. Bastards! As well as use of Mahle mags on the rear.
