    the body shop owner gave me a badge like the one jack posted which i believe to be an early reproduction. however i opted go with something a bit different.

    Yeah, mine is the commonly-available reproduction. I think it's from Performance Products. If you flip it over, it's easily distinguishable from the real thing.

    Some of the repros I've seen have the ® and 901 on the back, although -- ironically -- these were repros of the later (marbled red stripes) badges.

    I've never seen a repro with the stamped-looking back, like the original.

    I've been unable to find a decent original one.

    Has anyone had one restored? I was thinking of taking a beat up one to a jeweler to have the cloisonne replaced.

    Thanks for all the info all. Looks like I am going to get a repro, Stoddard has two available with the orange coloured bands one has "ger" after the part number(which I assume is German made). Does anyone know what the difference is between these two?

    I just opened the latest Performance Products catalog and on page 13 there are "Genuine Porsche" Early style hood crests for sale (for the concours enthusiast).
    Anyone seen one ?, How close do they come to the originals?

    I bought one of those last year and returned it.
    Not even close.
