Thread: Still confused on 69 tool kits

    Here's some pix

    Mike:

Here is a thread from some time ago with some good pictures of toolkits.

In reality there is a lot of e-Soteric stuff you can dig up about tool kits that only a few people are going to know about, or even care about. I honestly bent Eric's ear for hours while he taught me about the details of the toolkit for the 73E that I bought. The one that I ended up purchasing is very close, but not exact. But, hell, it is close enough for me. Spending $400 on it was enough. Spending $700 or more was not in the cards, and that is what it would have taken to get a "perfect" kit. And the older the car, the more expensive the kit. Good kits for 356's go into the Multi-Thousands - trust me.

You can really go crazy on this stuff if you want.

I have also included a picture of mine.

Let's see...a couple of screwdrivers, a fan belt, a lug wrench, a hex wrench, a spark plug wrench, a fan belt wrench, a plastic box containing a few old style fuses, a handful of open end wrenches, a box end wrench, and a special roll to keep it all in. SURE that is worth three quarters of a grand! To somebody..but not me. Perhaps that's too easy to say, since I have it all...but jeeze, sometimes I think the P-car universe has gone completely INSANE! Like I said, my original tool kit stays with the car. But if I wanted one? I doubt it would be worth $750 to me...

    Paul,

Sounds like you need to make a statement against the insanity. Selling me yours for $50.00 would be quite profound!

Hoot! Well, what can I say? The P-car universe may be insane, but I'm not crazy?

    What level of insanity?

I have to admit to a bit of insanity when I spent $390 on my toolkit. The only logic to it, if there is such a thing, is that I was trying to "complete" my car, I knew that buying the pieces - if I could find them - would be more, and that in two or three years when I decided that I really wanted one, they would be $600 or more.

The fact that $390 is insane now is only exceeded by how insane $700 is going to be in 4 years, and $1000 in 6 years.

Hey, if the prices rise high enough, I will sell the toolkit to finance a full engine rebuild!!

Yeah, lots of insanity around our cars. But, hey, I could play golf and spend hundreds to get on certain curses. If you aske me, the decision between a $500 or so tool kit or spending some serious dough playing 2 rounds of golf is an easy one ...

Talking about insanity by the way: My car was selected to be part of a "40 years of 911" display. Hence, it is parked in the 911 spa and waiting for a 911 facial. Here are other insanely pricey parts I am looking for: NOS 69 dashboard, driving light horn grills, a 69 Blaupunkt Frankfurt (Thanks Paul for the link) plus matching speaker for the dash, a set (5) of 6" deep dish Fuchs and a hood crest with just the right amount of patina .

Or maybe I just buy Paul's car - might be cheaper

    Old Radios

    Mike:

Here is a source for original radios.

    http://www.oldautoradio.com/

I happened to find my radio from another PNut on this board. You can post a WTB on the "want to buy/sell" part of this board, and you might find someone selling one.

oldautoradio sells great, refurbished radios, but they are pricey.
