Love this tangerine. I have to say that the oranges are my favorites for these cars. This one was really pretty.

And it was just Porsches as far as the eye could see. There were lots of parts to be had, and old copies of Pano. I did get a sales brochure from 73, which I was really excited about. Also got a chance to meet Mike McGrath, my mechanic. We spent some time visiting about the swap meet. He said that it wasn't as big as he had seen in the past. I think that he bought more than he sold, because he told me that his truck was still full on the way home.
In the sales area there were a lot of cars, but nothing too exciting. There was a 356 in black for $18K, but I don't know how nice it really was, my eye isn't that trained yet. And there were a few T's for sale. Bits of rust here and there on them, but the owners admitted that it wasn't worth fixing them up. Well, not unless you were interested in making an RGruppe car out of them. I had thought it would go on into the afternoon, but they selected the people's choice at about 12:30, and by 2:00 PM, the parking lot was emptying out, so we headed out back west.
That's the story.

Thanks for the pics Larry! Just think, next year you'll have your OWN car there to show off... and we won't have to decide between Rennsport and Hershey.

Thanks for those Larry. As to your observation on the lack of early cars - it is not uncommon. Even at Rennsports I & II, the early cars in the corrals were few. There really aren't many of these cars around, particularly in the sort of condition yours will be in shortly . I think we all get a bit jaded looking at photos of the many R Gruppe / Early S gatherings in SoCal where the majority of these cars are located. We then get to one of these large events in the midwest/east and expect to see 20-30 early cars lined up and come away disappointed. -- Curt

I am sure that you are right. Having been on this board, I got the feeling that these were more common than they are. That just makes my car that much more unique. On top of which, there wasn't a single Viper Green car there at all!!!
There were some interesting things for sale. Someone had a 2.7L with E cams for about $5K, nice combination, but of questionable parentage. There were piles of rusty parts that people were digging through, but I didn't know what to look for. Someone had a trailer there with a 356 on it, the body seemed pretty complete, but pretty rusty too.
I guess the disappointing part was not finding people I knew. I know that there were a bunch of people there from Pelican, don't know if any of the early911S crowd made it, or if you were all at Rennsport. But no one walks around with a badge that says "Hi, I'm larry47us". Makes it kinda hard to find people you have been visiting with on the BBS. So you just smile and walk by.
Maybe we'll meet there next year.

What worked out well at Rennsport was the party at the Ale House Friday night. That was promoted pretty well here and on Pelican and there was a HUGE turnout. The other thing that helped was having my car there. Had several people come up and introduce themselves because they knew my car, but had never met me! So, ya need to drive the Targa to Hershey next year!!
Curt:
Well, after all of the noise that I have made about my Viper Green Targa over the past 6 months, I am sure that it will get more notice than I will. I will have to arrange to take it on a road trip to chocolate town next year, so that I can meet all of you, and show off my prize.
It is certainly a lot cooler than walking around with a badge that says "Hi, I'm larry47us"

Thanks, I stand corrected. Need to get my oranges straight. Now, which ones are the navel oranges . . . . . . ?

Orange, green, purple...who cares? It's the car that counts.
