    Behr 2.8 RSR Oil Cooler

    Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for some help with a few details regarding the oil cooler that was fitted to the 2.8 RSR.

As some here will be aware I recently commissioned the fabrication of the 1974 Behr Oil Cooler that was fitted to 3.0 RS/RSR for my own 3.0RS build; it was a long winded process where I learnt a lot and met some very skilled professionals along the way who helped with the fabrication. The coolers turned out pretty good, details here - https://www.early911sregistry.org/fo...ral-Oil-Cooler

A friend then mentioned he just happened to have a NOS original 2.8 Oil Cooler and suggested it would be good to produce a few of these too.....

....well, with an original cooler to copy/scan, having met all the right people who could help and having been asked a number of times about the possibility of producing a 2.8 cooler it seemed it would be daft not to!

It's early days but the original cooler is in the process of being copied and full drawings produced for the end tank castings to be made and for final cooler fabrication....

    ....

....and this is where we would appreciate some help.....

...with an original item to hand we have all the information we need for fabrication of the actual cooler. However we need some help with the drain plug/relief valve which you can just see here....

....with the 3.0 cooler project I was lucky enough to be sent all the dimensions for the plug/spring/bearing etc from an original RSR item....

...these were then produced authentically to the correct size, spring/wire dimensions etc...

...we now need to do the same for the 2.8 cooler project.

Does anyone have an original early 2.8 RSR Behr oil cooler with the original plug/spring/bearing that they could measure accurately for us?

Your help would be greatly appreciated and would also benefit a number of people on here who require a quality accurate reproduction of this cooler.

    Thanks for looking.

    Cheers,

If the 2.8 and 914GT coolers are the same then Armando’s is a 914 based on the date code. Pretty cool.
