Last sunday, I left Switzerland for… Spa Francorchamps! I transited by Paris, to catch Brakekiller and his french friends to participate to a practice training day with Porsche Motorsport. I decided to drive only on national roads and no highways. I wanted to see some souvenirs of my childhood. In another word: the poplars! There is plenty on both sides of the roads, planted by Napoleon Bonaparte to give shades to his soldiers!
About 550 km of lovely roads, crossing the areas of Jura, Bourgogne and the famous Fontainebleau forest! The meeting point was Versailles. So many royal and historic places!
The story follows later…
50 km before reaching Paris, I heard a bad noise on the left rear side of Trudi. A call to my mechanic confirmed what I was thinking: left rear joint! Merde! Or sh..t!
Another call to Brakekiller and the solution appeared: an appointment with Sébastien Crubilé, maybe the biggest Porsche classic specialist in France! And his garage was just 30 km far from Paris. Lucky me.
After a nice evening in Paris with my swiss friend Philippe (he joined me with his marvelous GT3 RS 4.0), I waked up early on monday to reach Bures-sur-Yvette! What a wonderful feeling to drive early morning in Paris, under the sun, even with Trudi grumbling from the left side!
I met Sébastien at 8.30 AM, and he just needed 300 meters to confirm the joint problem. Lucky me again, he had a joint - a 930 one, to endure the power and torque of Trudi's RSR engine! His mechanic started to work on Trudi immediately.
Story not finished…
Because the reparation needed time, I started to talk about Sébastien's garage and experiment. What a nice talk! This young (38) guy is a fast driver (V de V championship with a GT3 R, actually second of the championship, driving with… Manuel Collard!), an authentic Porsche encyclopaedia and a passionate. He «introduced» me to all the phenomenal pieces of his showroom: a 956 which won the World Endurance Championship in 1984, a 908-3, the 935 Interscope which won the Daytona 24 Hours, a 906 which belonged to his father, a 910, a Ford GT40 (not a mistake of taste to me!), two real 2.8 RSR and the sherry on the cake…*a 917. The famous Kremer 1981, which participate at Le Mans in her Malardeau colors.
He allowed me to sit in the 917! The real accomplishment in a Porsche passionate life! What a great moment to share with him and making souvenirs I actually share with you.
And now, the pictures. Sorry for the poor quality, but the cars were such in a small place, it was difficult to show them perfectly!
I forgot something: Sébastien has a true 917 chassis, hanging on the roof of the garage! Did you heard about Ali Baba's cavern? I found it…
