    O'Hare . . .

    . . . from the '70 thru '72 PDLs . . .

    Porsche Audi at O'Hare
    1000 Elmhurst Road
    Elk Grove Village, IL

Matte blue lettering in matte white letter-boxes, flash-chromed, no makers' marks/ID. Plate = std IL pass, YoIss, etc

    Bit of an odd duck. Dealership's ID is kinda/vaguely 'modern'-looking --- w/ a weird symbol that I can't quite decipher . . . but the '|' in the Porsche '|' Audi IDs this Little Fella as v (?) Early '70s (me-thinks), so . . .

    . . . take that for what it's worth

White Cap Construction Supply lives there, today

"Cavalier Porsche Audi" plate frames, please let me know and Sithot and I can then fight over who gets them.

Porsche Corporate was convinced in the early 70's that Richmond needed a dealership, so they talked a couple of guys into leaving Heishman's or might have been Capital in DC to go to Richmond and open up a dealership. Porsche promoted the new dealeship by adverstising it on the side of Peter Greg's Orange #59 car that ran at Summit Point and later in what I think may have been the inaugural IMSA race at VIR. You can find archived pics of Greg's car sporting Cavalier Porsche Audi, Richmond, VA on the door. Porsche corporate didn't do such a great job choosing the folks to open the Richmond dealership and they were a little premature in their belief Richmond could support a dealership and it folded a couple of years after it opened . . .
    . . . from the '71 and '72 PDLs . . .

    Cavalier Porsche Audi, Inc
    7729 Midlothian Pike
    Richmond, VA

Matte-white lettering in matte-gray/blue letterboxes, flash-chromed, no Makers' marks/ID; std '71 VA pass plate

    Not a trace o' this outfit, although . . . seems they once sponsored a certain P Gregg, in the Virginia 250, 16.4.1972 . . .

    Holbert's . . .

    . . . from the '68 thru '72 PDLs . . .

    917/802/1
    Holbert's Porsche Audi, Inc
1409-10, then 1607, than back to 1425 Easton Road
    Warrington, PA

    Matte white lettering in matte grey-blue letter-boxes, flash-chromed, no Makers' marks/ID; plate = etc, etc . . .

Born in 1923, in Warrington, PA, Bob Holbert grew up working in his parents’ hardware store, started fixing bicycles as a pup

Joined the Navy, where his aptitude for Things Mechanical got him working on PT boats. Postwar, opened a general auto repair shop, then a Mobil gas station, right next to his parents hardware store, back in Warrington

Bought an MG TD in ’52, then after that . . . Holbert’s Garage began specializing in sports cars

Started racing shortly after, discovered that he had a natural talent for that, too. (So did his son Al). Raced for 10 years, starting in MGs, then switched to Porsches in ‘57 . . . after watching Jack McAfee take his past 7 bigger-motored cars at Cumberland. Mr Holbert proceeded to become a legend driving Porsches . . .

    ..6 Class wins @Sebring, 2nd overall in ’60
    ..4 SCCA Championships
    ..podium finish @Le Mans

Sold a young Roger Penske his first race car

Joined Shelby American as a team driver in '63, driving Roadsters and King Cobras. Won the first United States Road Racing Championship that year. Took the Cobra Daytona out for its first two outings

Quit racing in ’64 --- after his friend + Shelby teammate Dave MacDonald was killed. Never talked about it

But, for the next 40-odd years, concentrated on running the family business --- his Porsche dealership . . . the oldest in the US (?)

    Passed away in ‘07

The dealership was later sold to the Jack Thompson Organization of Doylestown . . .

    Porsche of Bucks County
    1607 Easton Road

Looks like Kia of Warrington, occupies the 1425 address

Interesting frame --- and not just for its composition . . . Mr Holbert's name actually figures smaller/less-prominently that Porsche's, here, than some . . . but also for it's big/bold lettering in a pleasing (I think) font. Spectacular shape --- IMO . . . especially considering, not just its age . . . but also the location/climate

    Lucky-lucky frame
