Thread: Anyone know this car? 67 S Soft Window for $85k...

    Tom, you're one funny guy!

I can't tell if that's a behind the scenes political statement or a commentary on valuating cars never actually seen or driven.

    I'm not too experienced, but . . . . .

I wanted a car that was a joy to look at, one that would leave people slack jawed looking at it. Pristine engine compartment, flawless paint, you know the drill. Something to be really proud of.

Well, as you know, I picked up Kermit last week. Geez, he sure looks nice, but it is going to be a bitch to keep him looking that pristine if I keep driving him. And I plan on it. Too much fun to leave him resting in the garage, giving me that sad "when we going to go out and take a run" look.

I want a nice looking car that will turn heads, but a concours car? Nope - gimme one that I can drive. No garage prince here. Maybe a court jester. (or was that chester?)

    Cars too nice to drive....

There's nothing more depressing then going out to your garage, and 3 out of your 4 Porsches have dead batteries.

Almost a couple years ago I sold a 67S sunroof coupe with 20K original miles. The buyer was as knowledgable as they come. After looking at the car for about a hour, he said,I'll take it! NO dickering.
Then he said, "I didn't pay to much, just bought a little ahead of the market".
    I liked that line!
If I could get that car back, I could sell it for 30-40% more than I got in January of 2003.
Yes, 85K seems to be well ahead of the market right now, But.....If you found a decent 67/68 soft window S and did a concours restoration on it, you would have spent OVER 85K. The SWB cars take a lot more time and money to restore than the later cars.

    Bob,
The most difficult part is dealing with the vent windows. They are usually pitted, and need to be taken apart and rechromed. Try getting the glass out of a vent window frame that has been in there for 35 years. You bend the frame taking it out.....and your done. It's soft chromed brass and it's nearly immpossible to get it dead stright again. A lot of little detail parts also.

The chrome wiper and directional stocks off the steering column. They are always pitted. Try taking the switches apart and getting the arms rechromed and put it back together and have it work properly! Fun.....

front and rear bumper deco........and rocker deco. Can't buy even junk repro.
SWB bumper is differant than LWB.

Proper early headlights........restoring the front and rear light housings is also a project!
    The list goes on.........

Use lots of hot water and you'll soften the mastic holding the vent window glass to the frames.

I bought a nice set of headlights from Stoddards, about $ 130 each. I think they're still available; the price may be slightly higher.

Ouch! Gotta admit, I try to avoid muddy roads these days...that's because there is always some guy who does this:

I am shocked!!! You let someone look up the "skirt" of your awesome Green Machine?

    Isn't that a bit personal?
