    replacement key from vin #?

hi all. just started my restoration on a 67 911. i can’t seem to find my keys tho. has anyone had any luck getting a new set made by providing a vin # and proof of ownership? are there any other alternatives like having a skilled locksmith come out and decode the tumbler?

I have had new keys made by providing the key number and years ago it was fairly easy to get that from Porsche. I am not sure how hard that is now. However if the car still has the original locks the key number is recorded on the kardex and you can get it that way.

several times, with lost keys, most from friends...i have removed the chrome door handle. inside the door handle is a lock tumbler, (a cylinder with sliding metal wafers)
You can slide in a blank key....see where to file the teeth.
One by one...you just file....(i use a dremel, diamond disc). you can see the wafer lower until it is flush. For me, it is very fun.
With your key it is probably about 6 wafers. your key is easy, at is only one sided.

That's the route I take without going to dealers, finding numbers, paying others to make it work.

It usually takes 20 minutes. (maybe a little longer to remove the handle itself)

Another thing i do is take a photo of the key...that way i have a record, and it gives me a head start as what the shape will be.

You can most likely mail your lock cylinder to a guy too. (but i prefer to do it at home)
