    Should water be in there?

    Hi Guys!

I'm new to this forum (and Porsche ownership) so I'm not sure if this topic has been covered before...

Anyway, I have a 73 911E with RS upgrades etc. I have only had this car for a few months so I'm still regularly going out to the garage to swoon. Since going over the car carefully, I noticed a build up of water in the well under the trap door in the luggage compartment. Is this normal? After further investigation I found a metal blanking plate at the bottom of the well which allowed me to drain out this water. Once the area was dry I checked the metal and lucky everything was ok. No rust! After washing the car the well was again full of water. Strange! There seems to be some kind of plastic "drain" moulding going from the lower windscreen vents to the edge of the trap door cover. This part is cracked. Could this be the problem? If so, are these parts still available and how difficult are they to replace?

    Thanks for your time!

Welcome to the forum and Pcar ownership.

The air intake box at the rear edge of the hood also ingests water. There is supposed to be a drain tube leading from the air box through the smugglers box to the ground. The tube is often knocked loose, missing, broken and/or plugged with debris. Take a look. Parts should be available, but for some reason I fabricated some odd shaped radiator/coolant hoses to replace a jury-rigged aftermarket drain tube that came with the port-installed A/C which is no longer there.
