    Wheel Question - 4.5 inch Fuchs finish

    My 1967 911S has its wheels finished as per the photo below. The only other place that I have seen a wheel finished such is in Dr Johnson's book, " The 911....A restorers guide...".

    Is it that my finish is not original, as it matches a photo in of a 911S 4.5 inch wheel 1967 on page 34 of the book?
    Also, why don't I see other similiar 1967 911S wheels in other photos around (such as in this forum)? Is it a finish that people don't like?

    I am somewhat new to all this, so apologies if this should be something that has been talked about before. I did a search but with no success.

    Justin;

    I'm not one of the experts but I know that is the correct style for a 67. I believe it was always done in black but I could be wrong about that.
    I am going to have my wheels done that way (in black) when the time comes.

    No, you're right. The style of painting is correct, but I have never seen them in anything but black.

    So, it looks like someone "updated" the colour or something. The prior owner had resprayed the car black, so he might have had the wheels changed to the gold (I guess).

    I have never seen nor head of any other colour apart from black. Check in the cutouts to see if the edges are painted black. There are usually small runs from the cutouts on the back face

    The edges were hand done. They should look hand done, drips and all.

    It looks as if Justin's rims have been rough polished at some time and the anodising removed. The original 4.5" Fuchs were only polished on the edge of the rima and the spoles, the rim upstand was linished and the rest of the rim was raw from the press. I would guess that the original black paint was removed at the same time,
