73 Rubber Bumpers vs 72 Chrome Bumpers

Has anyone removed the 73 rubber and replaced it with 72 chrome?

I just bought my 73 S and am very happy with it, but am wondering if I might want to replace the rubber for the chrome. If anyone has done this, I would be interested in knowing how easy of a job it was and what was involved.

Do you need to also replace the bumper rub strips or do the chrome ones fit in the same width as the rubber ones? Do they attach in the same locations?

Any sources for 72 style S bumperettes?

I have done it on a couple of 73 cars. The rear is quick and simple about 15 mins, 2 cap heads on top, 1 on the bottom, straight swap of the bumperettes. The fronts can apparenty be done without removing the bumper, but I did. The bumperette bolts can be difficult to undo, and the new ones can be a PITA to line up if you have poor quality repros. Good ones swap easily.

They are on theEbay quite often, and/or post a wanted ad on Pelican.
The all rubber ones were for US cars only in 73. I swapped my rears out for all chrome (NOS from $toddard) and removed the fronts altogether.
Front looks best without any bumperettes IMO - but requires a bumper repaint and new trim strip. I imagine the chromes would fit in your existing front trim gaps, if not, you could remove the rubber and slide it over a bit (there is some play). This will require removal of the bumper though.

    Chrome & chrome/rubber bumper guards

Beware of the quality of the parts available out there... The repros all come from one place and may not meet your quality expectations.

In Europe the 73's came with the smaller chrome bumperguards....but they were anodized (or painted?) black. I have a 73S with these black guards....looks nice, no pics, sorry.

    Monterey, Laguna Seca.

that 73 911 is really nice and fast. It has a 2.9 MFI car, over 200+ HP

Looks simple and has that sleeper look.
