Japan member re. "Japan Equipment" Mirrors

    Hi Sushi lovers (and others),

My '73 911E had "Japan Equipment" according to the C of A. Does anyone know what this included. I'm specifically interested in the mirror location: my car has twin Durant Mirrors but what is weird is they are both mounted aabout 2" further back than the standard locations (in line with access holes on inside of the door). I believe my car was ordered by a U.S. serviceman so it is Left Hand drive, but needed the "correct" mirror location to be approved for operation in Japan. Hope someone can help. I'll take a better, side picture, later but you can kind of make out what I'm talking about from this picture. Arigato

    Code of Bushido Manual
    Ceremonial Seppuku Dagger
    KPH Speedometer

That's about all I could come up with.

I may be mistaken but I think cars in Japan were required to have Rear View Mirrors mounted on the fenders.

    From: http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cache...n+fender&hl=en

"The other major differences between the North American version and the Japanese are the fender mounted mirrors up to 1983 and the location of the steering wheel. In 1983 Japanese laws changed concerning mirrors on the fenders."

What Harry D says. I travelled in that area extensively in the 70's and 80's and all cars in Japan had those dopey mirrors waaaay out on the front fenders, like 2/3 of the way to the headlamps.

You should be able to find the patched holes from underneath in that area..

    Better pic and 2 Theories

OK. So we have the theory the mirrors were on the fenders (I'll clean and check for patches this weekend) or they were always in the wrong place on the doors, both sides. It seems weird they would be displaced after the fact on the doors because to locate them where the are is a little trick as the nuts won't be easy to fasten. Other info? Thanks.
