Do you mind if I post this picture again? I think it's the Transam support race to the 1967 Daytona 24 hours. Horst Kwech is standing next to Peter Gregg who is standing next to an early 911. Kwech drove an Alfa GTA in the race. He won the under 2 litre Transam championship in 1966 and Gregg went on to win it in 1967. My question is what, if anything, is known about the car. The keen-eyed will note that it has 4-screw horn grilles, so it's from the 1965 calendar year. Does the group have any further thoughts or observations? Would love to hear if so. Many thanks, Robert

As we mourn the loss of Niki Lauda, its interesting to note early in his career, he took competitive laps in 911s.

    Federico "Pitty" Block

I think that they are from June of 1971, just after Fernando Madera bought his 906 (the car in post 1381) from Pitty Block, a Peruvian, who had just recently bought Armando Capriles' 906 and had it repainted in the Peruvian national colors of red and white (this is the car is post # 1383). What's interesting is that the 906 in post # 1381 is s/n 906-138 and, from that point on, the 906 in post # 1383 also would carry s/n "906-138". This was probably done to avoid paying importation duties to bring the second 906 into Peru. Who would know that one 906 replaced the other?

Kevin Jeanette restored the second "906-138" a few years ago. He figured out that it couldn't possibly be "906-138". It took me a couple of years to piece together the puzzle of what had happened and to figure out that the second "906-138" was in fact 906-158. I suspect that Block actually took delivery of 906-158 just prior to this race at Rio Hato, Panama.

Here are some Facebook photos of the 906 and a 911 raced by Federico "Pitty" Block from Peru. He raced the 911 with number 503 in the September 1969 GP Nacional de Carreteras Caminos del Inca

This photo comes from the Flickr account of Wfooshee of a slide taken by his father at Nurburgring in the 1960s. I believe this is the 904 of Stommelen from the 1965 Rheinland-Pfalz Preis Nurburgring based on the information from Racingsportscars.com.

There are some more great shots in this album that look to be from the 1966 running of the same race showing a grid of 906 racers

Those are some of the best "new" photos from that era I have seen in years. The light, capture of movement of the flags, the 906s gridded up, the period adverts and signage. Thanks for sharing
