Thread: MFI cold start proceedure w/ cold start disabled

  1. #11
Thanks for all the responses. I guess the best thing to do would be
to install a "manual cold start button/switch"
Took a road trip to Taos & Santa Fe, NM this last weekend, total r/t of
about 600 miles. Anyway the 1st morning car was a real bear to start.
A little better in Santa Fe, but nothing like the descriptions of ease of starting
    here.

    Cold start

Replace the thermo time switch and check the pump accuator. The thing should work fine, forget the aux switch. Read the manual on how to trouble shoot the system, it is simple.

thanks for the reply. I have the CMA manual. Will look into your suggestions
    Had my Porsche Tech
adjust mixture, as car came from sea-level...was running about 13% !
Was adjusted to about 4% at 5000 ft. (ABQ where my shop is)
Iam at 7600 ft elev, would this be contributing to these symptoms at all?

Your mechanics technique is right on with holding to the floor on a warm engine and letting up slowly. That altitude shouldnt matter, the trouble shooting test should be performed and you will figure it out. Last year I had a 75 Euro carrera I bought and the guy never fixed the cold start, I ran the checks and came up dead. No power to the system, turns out the relay was no good. You really need to have the spares of the system to diagnois and repair. You cars sounds exactly like a car that is not getting any fuel when started.

Run a meter to the cold start fuel switch at the top of the fuel filter console. On a cold engine as the key is in the cranking position the meter should show 12 volts for 5-7 seconds as you are cranking, and as you keep cranking without letting up at the end of the 5-7 seconds the meter will go to zero. On a warm engine this feature is disabled by the thermal time switch, no allowing any fuel to pump. Try this first and tell me what you get.
