I wouldn't rule out some lake-effect snow at night!
Here are just two shots from another very successful Midwest Esses gathering which took place this weekend on Michigan's west coast. I trust that the more dedicated photographers among our group will soon follow with the good stuff. This is Saturday's scenic road trip led by our new friends, Bob and Debbie, local Michiganders who spotted our group in the motel parking lot and then kindly volunteered to lead the tour with their 993 Targa. Nice roads, Bob & Debbie!

My Wife, Charlie, and I were on the tail end of a road trip to South Carolina in our '57 Coupe when the midwest gathering occurred, so we asked for, and received special dispensation to attend without the "Shorty S". With much practice and (more than a few) blue sentences, here's what can be stuffed into the rear of an A Coupe when the trunk compartment is filled to the gills with road spares. As it turned out, the spares were merely ballast, as the ol' girl hummed along for 2000 miles without skipping a beat.

Between GeorgeK, Dave and Larry, I don't think there'll be any shortage of photos from this drive ..... Jim , that new '57 of yours is simply spectacular. What a great weekend!
... and best of all - it's NOT a Chevy!!!
It was a great weekend - Many pics to come, I'm sure.

This was my first time and it was a great finally putting screen names to faces...very happy that we attended...it was wonderful seeing and driving other early cars.
Cany wait to doing something next year...didd someone say Monterey?
Jim, I was talking to a few local Porsche guys last week that had just been to the Euro show. They asked me if I remembered the orange 911 from a couple of years ago that was drinven down from the Midwest. They said that the owner came this year in a beautiful 356. I was wondering if it was you, and sure enough! Hard to believe you gave up the orange car, but that A looks great!

Hey Tom,
Yup, it was me. And yes, that '71 signal Orange car was (and still is) an amazing car; I can't say that I've ever seen a 911 of that vintage which was better preserved, although I'm sure that many similar examples do exist. A friend of mine in Minneapolis discoved the car on the showroom of Sears BMW in '92 while waiting for an oil change and called me sounding like he was having a heart attack. Needless to say, he didn't leave the dealership without making the purchase, and we always referred to the car as the most expensive oil change in history. I tried to buy it from him for eight long years and then along came an original '68S which I bought and still own. Shortly thereafter (yes, you guessed it) he offered the car to me and, after initially taking a pass, decided that I had to have it. I t was fun to own for a couple of years, but I was really too paranoid about it to fully enjoy. It won its class at Parade '01 while I owned it and, as a result of showing it at Euro on '02, I have a lifetime supply of Zymol products; how cool is that....
I've owned 356's for 20+ years and when this remarkable '57 Coupe came along last spring, I parted with a great '59 Cab which I'd had for fourteen years in order to make room for it. We drove it to SC for Euro and then hooked up with the Midwest Esses gang in Michigan on the way back home. Needless to say, we were left in their wake of flying leaves during the more heated segments of Saturday's drive.
We had a great time at Euro, although I was wishing for a surface parking lot like the old headquarters hotel; parking lot BS is a big part of the fun for us and basement parking just 'aint the same.
