    Wtb: 70-73 911

A good friend of mine is looking for a car. He almost bought the Silver 70 911 T at Californa Classix but the condition of the body and paint was rougher than he wanted to deal with.

    See it here

He wants a car very similar to this. He wants the car to be something he can use for his 2 mile commute as a daily driver and he must have air conditioning. He's not necessarily looking for total "correctness" but wants a car that is "right". After driving the silver car he is sold on an early 911.

He's looking to spend in the $20-$30k range on the right car.

Also it is preferrable that the car is in the SoCal area so he can check it out before buying.

    Any ideas???

I don't know how many of these early cars that had A/C still have it, not many I suspect. I have owned quite a few probaly 30 % of them had A/C at one time but they all had been removed. I'm sure A/C it can be reinstalled with modern components to be better than new. My choice would be to go with an early car with a 3.0 or 3.2 injected motor and redo the A/C with something the restomod folks are using.

    .........

    A/C ?

Flame me but uhhh sounds like he needs a newer car.

    911 Carrera 84-89
As already mentioned early car w/ later motor
    Acura NSX
    Something else

I dunno, wanting an early car for a 2 mile daily and need A/C in Cali???

He might regret his purchase (there's not any cup holders for the morning starbuck either)

Either way for that money it should be highly feasible to find a nice early car... even with A/C - but will it even work well enough?

    A/C? Isn't that California-speak for "Targa"?

Two mile commute? It takes my 911 15 mintues to warm up. Since two miles is about a 5 minute drive -- a 911 would never get the oil up to 180. And he wants to run an AC during this 3 minute drive? This is not a good idea.

He'd be better served by a later car. Carrera from '84 to '89. Heck of a bargain too for what you get.

PS: Very few of the early A/C units ever worked worth a damn and that's not to say that the Carreras won't have issues. The A/C only really started working around the time of the 964. Now they blow ice cubes but cost around $80k for admission in the "cheap seats".

Maybe I've exagerated his situation but he'll use it regularly, as they were meant to be, and he's a serious buyer with cash.

He's got a nice collection of cars already so it won't be his only ride but he has fallen under the same influence of early 911 that you and I have.

He would have picked up the aforementioned car (with AC that apparently did work very well) as mechanically it seemed to be all there but he wanted something that required less work on the cosmetics.

Anyway--like I said, a real buyer with cash for the right car (for him).

I'm sure that someone that knows what they are doing can make A/C work in an older 911, it won't be the crap Porsche used.
