    Early Door Hinges

    I've got a pair of nice doors to swap out on my '66. Old ones had a bad case of dead-door-stop-itis, where someone forgets, lets go of the door, it goes full-forward and turns the front edge of the door inside out. Anyway, one of my new-to-me doors has only the door part of the hinge in place. Pin and body-side piece are missing, so I want to recycle the parts off the doors that are coming off. I can't get the old pins out to save my life! I don't want to bash on it any harder than I have for fear of mushrooming the pin. There must be a trick to getting it out!

    The old hinges are tight (amazing after almost 40 years and 480K miles!) so I'm sure they are recyclable. Anybody got tips on R&R?

    And yes..I have purchased new doorstops for my baby.

    Adam.. The proper and only way is too use the factory type pin puller...

    Otherwise you might have to use some heat on the hinges of the damaged door and drift out the old pins...
    If you end up ruining the pins,,, new ones are available from the dealer but allways seem to be .001"-.002" bigger in Dia. . ,, making them way too tight.. Stick them in a lathe and polish the bodys with emery cloth slightly.

    I've had many of these cars apart and have NEVER even tried to remove a door pin. Good Luck. There's plenty of these hinges around, so why?

    Because I need the chassis side of the hinges off my old door. As I said above, they are missing off the new door...it's just the way it arrived.

    Rob is right about the hinge pins. The factory figures that anyone needing pins alone, is installing them in old hinges. thus they are made a couple .000 over. Doesn't work though, they must be turned down a few .000 to work.

    Adam, I appreciate your dilemma, but there really are plenty of those hinges around. It will save you hours of frustrated time to simply find some used ones.
