    2.0L crank question

I can't find the answer in my specs, I hope you guys can tell me.

Which magnesium 2.0L engine's - if any - did have a counterbalanced crank? (In other words, I am in search of a 2.0L crank ..)

    Regards,

    Richard

The magnesium cases started in late 1967 (68 model year) with the 911T (case designation 901/03) which did not have a counterbalanced crank. Apparently the 911L also used the 901/03 case, so I assume that it also did not have a counterbalanced crank either. All other cases (911E and 911S had counterbalanced cranks. Same in 1969 which was the last year of the 2.0 engine.
The 911T also had the cheaper cast iron cylinders, and cast iron rockers.

    '69 E & S models + (from memory) some late '68 S models.

But weren't the cranks used in the earlier '66-'68 S models (with aluminium crankcases) the same part number ?

Do I get it right that 68 & 69 magnesium (2.0L) E's had counterbalanced cranks?

    Thanks, RIchard

That I don't know. The only reference of non-counterbalanced crank I found had to do with the 901/03 mag case which was used on the 911T and L models in 1968, and on the 911T models in 1969. I am pretty certain that all pre-1968 models with aluminum cases had counterbalanced cranks (i.e. 1964-67 911 normale and 66-67 911S).

    2.0 counterbalanced crankshaft

Hello: The 68 911L did have a counterbalanced crank. All of the 911 prior to the 911T had counterbalanced cranks. The T was the first to use the cheaper non balanced crank and cast iron cylinders. Porsche did this to save money. Remember at that time Porsche was still a small company so they also used what they had on the shelf. I rebuilt a 69 E that was original from Porsche no one ever opened it up. It has 69 S pistons and the intake stacks are from the S as well. Thanks Eric

From my experience, Eric is right here. Also, my mag case normal 68 911 car has the counterbalanced crank.

All 911 cranks were counterbalanced until the introduction of the 911T in 1968,(europe), or 69 (U.S.A.). The T also had the cast iron cylinders.
