    Speaking of Tangerine....

The beige (?) RS being discussed here looks great in my opinion. But as opposed to the original color of Tangerine??!!!

My '73 S is now silver but was also originally Tangerine. I have pictures of the car from the mid-70's with its original paint, and Tangerine has got to be one of the best colors ever. I'd love to take my car back to Tangerine. My "problem" is that the silver paint that is currently on the car has been done to a high standard and it seems kind of excessive to repaint it.

I'm attaching a picture of what it looks like now.

    Hoping for rock chips,
    John Audette

I would put it back. Color change cars are a big no no and since this car is so unique why not make it better. You will be covered $$$ wise. Great car.

Yeah John that was my thought too about the Beige Gray RS. I will take Rob's opinion about how elegant it looks in this color now but I can't help but wonder why the recent restoration included a color change from 018 on such a valuable car. Makes no sense to me what so ever.

Your car OTOH has already been done to high standard by someone else in a really great color. 911s look so good in silver, I would be hard pressed to repaint it for a very long time. Maybe if I held it long enough I would get around to it but not anytime in the near future. A perfect reason to drive the heck out of it and when the chips on the front get unbearable then put it back to original color.

    John,

I remember when your car WAS tangerine, about a year before the original owner sold it .....

Unfortunately I only saw it for a bit.... and by that time in it's life the orange was very tired....
However, we all sure as hell noticed those very interesting flares....

This was at the second ever L.A. Early S Registry gathering at the Long beach Grand Prix in 1991 I think.

I'm a little bias but....... Your car has been painted and presents SO well ......
I'd leave it as beautiful as it is...

    Cheers,

John, I wouldn't respray Nic's old car back to tangerine now personally. I'd just drive it until it needs paint, then do it then. It's a great car the way it is.

One of the nifty things about the "car game" is that there 'aint no rules; Iffen you pays your money, you gets to choose the final product. If one does it to please the next owner, the fun factor is diminished. Relax, Brian

I agree. After having owned a large number of early Porsches over the years, there are two that are in what I call my inner circle -- this '73 S and my '60 356B Roadster. None of my decisions with those two cars factor in value because they're going to be in my will anyway (and I have two sons who love these old cars as much as I do).

    Cheers,
    John
