    Angry newbie: 911 motor in a 912, tach Q

Sorry if this is not the right place to plst this, i did a quick search no luck, 912 guys said to ask here

i JUST picked up a 66 912 with a 68 911 motor. The tach doesnt work, and im told this is due to the 6 cyl (makes sense to me)

Did the early 911 have green faces like a 912, so i can just put a 911 tach in? Or anyplace i can get mine fixed to work?

    thanks!

What type of ignition is hooked up to the car? Does it have a CD Box? If so, which one?
If it needs to be rebuilt, best place to send it to is North Hollywoood Speedo?
The 65-68 2.0 liter motors did not originally come with CD Units. If a CD Unitr is hooked up to an early motor whose tach has not been recalibrated, it will not work properly.
However, the problem may also have something to do with the fact that the car (more specifically the tacho) was originally set-up for a 912. That I don't know anything about.

The early 911 has green faces, up to about mid year production 1966, at the end of the 901/05 type engine. if your 912 has green gauges, then find one from a 1965 / 1966 / early 1967 911. I might have one in the garage. And like Gruen said, if you are running a CD unit, there will be issues to resolve as well.

just looking the car over in the daylight today, it appears to have an MSD red box, rather 6A looking. can i just get a 911 greenface, then use the msd tach adapter to run it?
