    Why don't I ever see this ?

    I haven't asked a stupid question for a while...
That hose from the smaller inlet on the arm of the airbox, why do I only very rarely see it attached ?

    Hi John,

Performance concerns, probably. Isn't that the hose from the starboard heat exchanger for intake air preheat?

For our cars PET shows a clamp. For the early Solex cars, like the one in your picture, there's no clamp. But then along comes RUF with a clamp. What's a restorer to do?

Its on my 1970 S Targa and is connected to a pipe on the right chasis, under the oil filter. (some small items missing on the pic)

Mine has the pipe below the oil filter also, I assumed that is where it connected.

I believe that this is a pre-heated air source - the pipe in the longitudinal connects to the heater duct. There is a warm air supply to the engine intake whenever the passenger heater is opened. The warm air intake should be a help in winter, but no one drives these cars in winter anymore.

I remember seeing those pics before, and am still shivering. Don't know if it's from the thought of how cold you must have been at the beg of the drive or from the thoughts of what the salt must be doing to that beautiful car of yours - or maybe it's from remembering what happened when my dad hit that patch of ice in the old Karman Ghia back in the day.
Gotta hand it to you though... Ya got no fear !
