Thread: What paint to use???Need your HELP!

    I just had the front of my 700-black 77 Turbo repainted in Glasurit single stage, orginal type paint. (Stone chips, lots of them.) I think it's "Series 22," or something like that. The orange peel, color and gloss are indistinguishable from the original paint on the rest of the car, IMHO. Personally, I feel that the modern paints are too smooth, and too glossy, for an early 911, especially if you go to a two stage. Of course, if it's a stem to stern repaint, then you can do whatever you want!

    Paint questions

    Sikkens, Glasurit, PPG, DuPont all make very good materials (and yes they are expensive) - as someone said earlier, have your shop use whatever they are familiar with for best results. No one can walk up to a car & tell you if you have Glasurit or DuPont on there once it is done.

    Unless I was painting a very historically significant car for a museum, etc. I'd go with the clear coat - the durability, ease of maintenance, etc. far outweigh the slight (very slight if each is done well) difference in appearance.

    I can't disagree with you, but we are all anal about our cars in different ways. Seeking the right German Velour, the vinyl grain that is "right" for our year car, the proper headrest for the right sport seat, the proper model and year of radio, etc etc. I don't see how choosing the mfg of the paint or single vs two stage is any different.

    Hello Guys.

    I was painting cars in the late 60's and early 70's in UK.

    And the base-coat and clear system was coming in..but not on all OEM finishes ..

    So I'd bet on any Porsche up to, say 71 or 72 being normal single stage metallic ( very much more skill needed).
