    Best Tires For a SWB (non Flared) with Deep 6's???

    Could anyone suggest a good tire for the above set-up? I have a set of 195 x 65 x 15's on my car now which are starting to show their age. I am also looking for a tire that offers good all around street use (with occassional aggressive spurts ). Thanks...

    My choice if you can hold of a set over there would be Bridgestone RE71s in 205/55/15s. Minimal change in rolling diameter for you and excellent tyre for all round use, including those "spurts" . I espoused their virtues in Gary Grasso's thread for best all round tyres...I love 'em, just can't get them anymore in any other size so can't use them on our cars sadly .

    Cheers,

    i recomend the Bridgestone Potenza RE950, which is a high performance all-season tire, which is about as high performance as you can find that will fit these SWB cars with out having a profile too low (which would throw off the speedo). I like them because they are quiet, they have decent wear characteristics, stickey gooey goodness, they cornery pretty well, and they are amazing on the occasional wet days. i also like the agressive tread pattern. they are also not too harsh either -drove cross country with relative comfort compared to the touring tires i had a year before.

    You may also want to take a look at the BFG" G Force Sport" in the 205X60X15.
    Seems to be a good price and a good tire!!

    Sounds like I'm in the minority here but thats ok. For an SWB I always go with the original 165/15's. Tall, thin and really vintage. I like that stuff. Got a really nice set from Gearworks for about $250. Looks great, rides cool.
    But hey, I just like original.

    What is the address for gearworks Tom ? (you are not alone). I looked it up but could not find any reference for tires.

    Thanks;

    I run the Yoko AVS-100 195/60 on a 15x6, good price and great performance.

    Man, I'm with Bret...

    I like a bit smaller tire on a street SWB car... but a bit fatter then stock

    I recommended the 195x60 AVS Intermediate's on early 6's for Fred Stewart's '67S and they work and look great... Unfortunately Yoko doesn't make that tire anymore, but, thank goodness, that size is still around.

    Cheers,

    I'm sorry to ask a question that's been beat to death likely, but I tried to search over the weekend while discussing the topic with a friend who has a 66 - is there physically any difference in the offset and size between and early 6 and a late 6? Check Upfixin' as well as the Early911S tech articles, as well as the diagram showing the offsets of different wheels doesn't indicate a difference between early and late - just looking for some confirmation. I know they have different appearances (as some would say correct vs. incorrect )

    Did you check the tech section on this site ? It gives all the offsets.
