    Show Your Tires?

Anyone willing to post a picture and description of tires on your car? I need new tires but am not sure what size will look right on the car. I have been looking through the previous threads and there are a lot regarding tire sizes but few pictures. I looked through the Pelican photos and some of the car/tire combinations look great, but I have no way of knowing the details. You don't see a lot of these cars in NE Ohio, so I don't have that to judge by either. A few different angles would help. Also, include a mini review of the tire if you like, wear, noise, performance, gripes, etc. I am planning on staying with the original 15/6 Fuchs, but post whatever else you have as it may help someone else.

    Thanks,

    Steve

Steve, tire selection comes down to the use your car gets, in general we in Australia get a different selection of tires to the USA. However I really don't think you can go past Yokohamas or Bidgestones, having said that, a customer of ours has used Firestones and was quite happy with them also.

195/65/15 is as close as you can get to original size with modern tires. There are original tire repops out there, but $$$. The tech links here (go to the home page, link from there) offer some good interactive tire charts, where you can compare sizes with the original 185/70/15.

Paul, Is that what you have on your car? (195/65-15) If so, what brand and model. Remember I'm building a clone.

Where the Rubber Hits the Road

I really like the Yokohama A-008P tires on my 911S (195/65 ZR15) so much better than the very modern look of the Michelins on my 280SL. If they hadn't been in great shape when I bought and restored the car I would have quickly replaced them with a more period tire.

In fact, I may just have to do that anyway. I cringe everytime I look at them. They just seem so wrong on that car. I strongly encourage you to install a tire consistent in appearance with those sold in the early 70's.

Yep...but since Yoko no longer makes the A008P, I recently went with their
latest version of the Db2...I guess they look okay, but they don't perform as well as the old AOO8P's did. I now find myself wishing I'd gone with the other choice in that same size, but not so sure it would be any better. The sad truth is that we who stick with 15" wheels are limiting ourselves, performance wise. I guess it's just something we'll have to live with unless we want to go to narrow profile, which IMO leaves too much "air" in the wheelwells...

I strongly encourage you to install a tire
that gives the best PERFORMANCE, irrespective of whether it looks like something sold in the early 70's.

Here are a few shots of my Dunlop SP Sport R2 tires size P205/60R15,
mounted on Deep6x15. They came with my car & seem to be ok.

Harvey is doing some replica 7R's for me which means I will go to 225 in the
rear, anyone know if I can run mismatched tires front to rear?

    Chris,

Yes you can definitely go with mismatched tire sizes. I have a set of 6 & 7R's being made up by Harvey as well and will be running S03's in 225/50/15 size at the back at 205/55/15 in the front. They look very good on these early cars.

    ok....what I meant to ask was "Can I run mis-matched tread/brand of
tire front to rear?" My Dunlops only have about 5000 miles on them, hate
to put all new tires (4) on the car
