Thread: Show Your Tires?

  1. #11
D'oh. Sorry about that. Yes you can run different tires front and rear, nothing preventing that. Might mess with the handling with different breakaway characteristics of different tires at the limit. Might look a bit funny too for those who notice (like wearing mismatched socks).

I didnt think about the look, but thats a good point.
May have to pop for new tires front & rear.
I was hoping to fly under the wife radar on this deal

You should not mix brands or tire 'models' in the same brand anywhere on the car.

    Randy,

    You are right on!!

I've mixed and did not like the results.

I much prefer the same brand & size F & R on the early cars!!

    My odd combination...

This is my first post on this Board, ...Thanks
    Front: Factory Fuchs Forged 15x6
    With Yokohama 185/70-15 VR Tires
    Rear: ’91 Carrera 2 Design 90 16x6 (21mm 944 Spacers along with 72mm wheels studs)
With BF Goodrich Comp T/As 205/65-16
-Still Occasionally Run Factory Rear 15x6 Fuchs

This combination was the cause of a $150 set of Carrera 4 Design 90s wheels. Besides the strange look the rear feels more stable on the lower profile tires; for all of the purists though I am looking for a set of 16x6 Fuchs (also, if you can see the 76-77 turbo tail I apologize).

I did not think that I could fit 15x7s (without finding 7Rs) or even 16x7s? The D90s rub the inside of the fender lip (under full compression, too much track...) as it is. I will try any combination but I do not want to roll or stretch the fenders, I will keep my eyes posted for some matching Fuchs. It would be nice just to transfer the rubber though (stay with 16s); the BFG Comp T/As are a decent tire.
    Thanks for your Reply

You just need to dial in a few degrees of negative camber to the rear wheels and you'll clear to full compression.

    15s or 16s?

Why do you suggest the 15s over the 16s? I may just go with both; a set of 15x7s and a set of 16x7s. I really wanted to keep my car quite standard (within reason) yet with a few RS and period tuning bits. Not to mention any thing that would help the reliability/ longevity (yet not detract from a Classic 911). The D90s were not a part of that plan. Thanks again Kenik.
