    Midwest R Grp / Early S Event - July '06

We are in the preliminary planning stages of a driving event to be held in the Rockford IL - Madison WI area. Tentatively, the plan would be to show up in Rockford sometime Friday where Joe Battista will feed us all at his restaurant. Saturday and/or Sunday will be a driving tour and/or track time and/or go-karts. Joe has his local track near Madison booked and we could run the whole day ..... if need be. As soon as we get a date firmed up, I'll let everyone know. This sounds like it could be a GREAT event and something a little different from what we've been doing.

Great - thanks for setting this up guys - 'bout time we hit Illinois. Has anyone used the Lk. Michigan ferry to Milwaukee? Opinions?? Might be a good option for us Michiganders.

Didn't Randy and Larry take the ferry to the Tour de Montague? Anyway, I think we're going to want to go thru Chicago to get to Rockford, right?

Yeah, probably wouldn't make sense to Rockford, but maybe on the way back if we leave from Madison?

    Hey Curt,

This sounds great! I enjoyed meeting Joe last year at the Taj and I'm excited to have a meal and several bottles of wine at his restuarant. The track experience will also be a blast.

Randy, Barb, Jim, and Charlie all took the ferry across the lake and really enjoyed the trip. Yeah it would make sense for you guys to take that from Madison back home. On the way there we can hook up on I-94 and head west to Rockford, IL

I've even been known to go through the Upper Peninsula to avoid Chicago traffic ..... OK, so it adds 700 miles to the trip, but it's a beautiful drive! I've taken the ferry too - saves driving, but the overall time is about the same.

It's the track for cars. I guess there's a group of 10-15 guys who rent this track once a month. Not sure on all the details right now.
